Blood Donation Drive: A Gift That Saves Lives
Our blood drives bring together people from diverse backgrounds with one shared purpose: helping neighbors they may never meet. A single blood donation can impact multiple lives, making every donor an important part of a much larger story of hope and compassion.

Every day, hospitals depend on generous blood donors to provide lifesaving care for patients facing surgeries, accidents, cancer treatments, and other medical emergencies. Because blood cannot be manufactured in a lab, modern medicine relies entirely on voluntary donors. Pacifica Foundation Seattle is honored to support this critical medical need by organizing community blood donation drives.
Our blood drives bring together people from diverse backgrounds with one shared purpose: helping neighbors they may never meet. A single blood donation can impact multiple lives, making every donor an important part of a much larger story of hope, community, and compassion.
Why Your Donation Matters
Unlike other medical supplies, blood has a strict shelf life and cannot be stored indefinitely. Red blood cells last about 42 days, while platelets—which are crucial for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy—must be used within just five to seven days. This short window means the community supply must be constantly replenished.
When you donate one pint of whole blood, it is typically separated into three distinct, lifesaving components: red blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Because your donation can be split to help different patients, a single donation can save or improve up to three lives. It is an incredible, life-changing return on an investment of just one hour of your time.
What to Expect and How to Prepare
For first-time donors, the unknown can sometimes be intimidating. However, the process is straightforward, completely safe, and highly structured:
Registration & Screening: You will complete a quick check-in and a private, confidential health history review. A staff member will check your vitals and perform a quick finger-prick test to ensure your iron levels are safe for donating.
The Donation: The actual blood draw takes only about 8 to 10 minutes. You will feel a brief pinch at the start, and then you can simply relax, read, or chat with our team.
Refreshments: After donating, you will spend 10 to 15 minutes resting in our recovery area while enjoying free snacks and drinks to help restore your fluids and energy levels.
To ensure a smooth and comfortable experience, be sure to drink plenty of water starting the day before your appointment. Eat a healthy, iron-rich meal a few hours before you arrive, and wear a shirt with sleeves that can easily be rolled up past your elbow.
Unity Through Practical Kindness
Beyond collecting donations, these events raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood and encourage first-time participants to become lifelong donors. Volunteers help create a warm, welcoming environment where giving back becomes both meaningful and accessible to everyone.
This initiative deeply reflects Pacifica's commitment to serving humanity through practical acts of kindness. Regardless of background, faith, or culture, we believe that compassion is a universal value that unites us all.
If you cannot donate blood for medical or eligibility reasons, you can still play a vital role. We are always looking for volunteers to greet donors, manage check-in tables, and serve refreshments. You can also help simply by spreading the word to your friends, family, and coworkers.
We are deeply thankful to every donor, volunteer, and partner who helps make these life-saving events possible. Together, we can ensure our local hospitals always have the resources they need to save lives.
