Caring for Our Community One Mile at a Time

At Pacifica Foundation Seattle, we believe that serving our community begins with caring for the places we all share. Through our *Adopt a Road* program, volunteers come together throughout the year to help keep local roadsides clean, safe, and welcoming.

At Pacifica Foundation Seattle, we believe that serving our community begins with caring for the places we all share. Neighborhood streets, public parks, and local roadsides are the backdrops of our daily lives, and keeping them clean is a collective responsibility. Through our Adopt a Road program, volunteers come together throughout the year to help keep local roadsides clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.

What may seem like a simple litter cleanup project quickly becomes something much greater: an active demonstration of civic pride, environmental stewardship, and community connection.

More Than Just a Cleanup

When volunteers put on reflective vests and pick up litter grabbers, they are doing far more than tidying up a roadside. They are building a stronger neighborhood.

Our cleanups bring together families, students, professionals, and community members who work side by side. As we clean, we talk, share stories, and build lasting friendships. These events turn strangers into neighbors and demonstrate a shared commitment to taking care of our local environment. Every bag of litter collected is a tangible reminder that positive, visible change starts with individual action and collective effort.

Inspiring the Next Generation of Engaged Citizens

One of the most rewarding aspects of the Adopt a Road program is watching younger generations get involved. Our road cleanups provide excellent opportunities for youth to develop a hands-on sense of community ownership and environmental responsibility.

By participating alongside experienced adult volunteers, children and teenagers learn valuable lessons:

  • Environmental Awareness: Seeing firsthand how much plastic and debris accumulates along roadsides teaches youth about the impact of waste and the importance of recycling.

  • Civic Responsibility: Working on public property teaches young people that taking care of shared spaces is a fundamental part of being an engaged citizen.

  • The Power of Service: Youth experience the immediate, positive impact of their hard work, proving that they are never too young to make a difference.

Service, Cooperation, and Respect

The Adopt a Road program perfectly reflects Pacifica's core belief that strong, resilient communities are built through hands-on service, cooperation, and respect for our shared environment. We do not have to wait for someone else to fix the issues in our neighborhoods; we have the power to step up and make a difference ourselves.

If you want to get involved, there are several ways you can participate:

  • Join a Cleanup Event: Keep an eye out for our upcoming scheduled road cleanups. We provide all the necessary safety gear, trash bags, and instructions—all you need to bring is your enthusiasm.

  • Involve Your Group: Encourage your family, local school club, or workplace team to join us for a day of service. It is a highly rewarding team-building activity.

  • Spread the Message: You can support the cause every day simply by picking up loose trash when you see it and encouraging others to keep our beautiful Seattle region litter-free.

We are incredibly grateful to every volunteer who dedicates their time, energy, and care to making our neighborhoods cleaner and more beautiful. Together, we are proving that even small, simple acts of service can make a lasting difference in the world we share.
